AD Studio Consultants were invited to tender for the consultancy contract with the Cape Town Film Studios complex (formerly known as Dreamworld) in South Africa in early 2006 and were successful in their bid.
At the time, the proposed studio complex was still in the discussion phase and ADSC were asked to collaborate with the local project management company responsible for the overall development of the project. After an initial visit to see the “green field” site, just outside of Cape Town, ADSC began to form a successful working relationship with Target Projects, the company retained by the Cape Town Film Studios consortium to see the project through from the planning phase to construction and physical production.
After approximately one year of concentrated efforts, by both companies, the Cape Town Film Studios consortium had to make the difficult decision of delaying the project. At the time, ADSC agreed to cancel their contract while the project was re-addressed and during the intervening period retained a good relationship with Target Projects in the hope that all the issues could be resolved and the project could finally begin in earnest sometime in early 2008.
Cape Town Studios management team have now been successful in getting the project off the ground and work has finally begun. Under the new structure, the main investors have taken on board a new Development CEO and he has brought his own team with him to progress the project.
As a result, ADSC are now no longer involved in the project but still maintain good relations with all concerned. ADSC wish Cape Town Film Studios and their partners, management teams and project teams a positive outcome to the project and hope they become a success for the industry in South Africa.
