David Rance, founder of AD Studio Consultants, has been involved with international film studio management since 1993, when he joined Pinewood Film and Television Studios in England. Prior to this, he was employed in a variety of management positions in the UK, including commercial property development for Arlington Securities, and operational procedures, business management and overseas project management for Northern Telecom.
His knowledge of the international film studio industry has been accumulated from nine years of working at Pinewood, one of the world’s largest studio complexes, and five years of working with studios in Spain, South Africa and Hungary.
While at Pinewood, David was integral to the renaissance of the studios and managed the building of new stages, production buildings, workshops and tenanted buildings. He was also responsible for upgrading and improving the level of services on site and generally overseeing and managing the improvement of the studio’s internal customer service skills. Through his studio operating offices, he introduced a number of new management procedures that helped improve productivity on site and increased profits in his areas of responsibility.
In 2002, David left Pinewood to join the new Ciudad de la Luz project in Alicante, Spain, where he gained substantial knowledge on building a new film studio complex from a green field site. Utilising the knowledge he had gained at Pinewood, he helped the Spanish build an international studio which could house multiple overseas productions.
During this time, he continued to accumulate valuable experience, working with international architects, engineers and building project management companies. He also met with several other businesses, from both within Spain and other countries, interested in building new studios in their own territories.
In January 2005, after returning to England, David founded AD Studio Consultants and pursued the projects he had begun in Spain. He also wrote a complete manual, New Build Studio, for prospective clients considering other projects throughout the world. With over 16 years of international film studio knowledge, David has also produced a complete database of procedures, check lists and reports, all of which relate to the build, management and functionality of an international film studio.
